This book is dedicated to the veteran soldier - the hero of these volumes - and to the sons of veterans who keep green the memory of their father's sacrifice on the battle-fields of our Civil War. This two volume set was published in New York by the Standley Bradley Publishing Company, MDCCCXC.

Both volumes are bound with detailed gilt embossed title. Volume one consists of 474 pages and Volume 2 consists of 444 pages with illustrations of scenes, incidents, maps, plans and portraits.
Many are beautiful detailed double-page illustrations. This is the most desirable, original leather binding.
FIRST EDITION. Gilded lettering and raised hubs on spine.
All edges cased in gilt. Gilded embossing of a soldier on cover. Red marbled end-papers.
Very Nice condition. Hinges attached and strong. Clean, bold text and illustrations. Overall extremely well preserved, internally VG.

With an introduction by Robert B. Beath. History of the Grand Army of the Republic by Paul Vandervoort.
History of the Sons of Veterans by A.P. Davis.
Includes an engraved frontis of Abraham Lincoln with a fascimile autograph.
Condition. For their age this two volume set is in superior condition. The corners of the bound books show the slightest of wear and rounding.
The gilt inlay title on both books is in impeccable condition. There are no missing or dog eared pages.
All pages are tightly bound and the bindings are in excellent condition.
Of those found and listed for sale, the conditions very widely. Many have missing, torn and/or dog-eared pages, loose pages and bad bindings.
If you can find a book, the bust prints have usually been removed and have been sold separately. The prints alone have tremendous historic value.
I feel it would be a disgrace to even consider removing the prints for individual sale. I play down the condition so as not to mislead any buyers.
Most would agree that the books are in better condition then stated.

The full-page bust prints are immaculate. They all are autographed, detailed, with amazing likeness.
I see no stains, tears or imperfections of any kind on the other prints. The pages are clean, crisp and show no wear even on the edges.
Even the original tissue paper is still in place to preserve the quality. There are just a few books like this in existence.
This is an original set made for congress.
Might be the only complete intact set available anywhere on the web.
They are meant for the true historian or forever preserved at a civil war museum.
A complete intact set is rare and rarely available anywhere.
